And Now Georgetown!

Wow. What a week! Georgetown's Bob Benson has resigned today from his head football position. Quite an interesting shake up going on. I think this is a good move for the Hoyas. They need a fresh start to get competitive in the Patriot League. I can only hope the purse opens up in conjunction with this move. More to come!

  • This was not a good day for Georgetown or the league--Bob Benson was the school's leading proponent of the PL, and if you think this a sign that Georgetown is opening its cash-poor wallet, you may want to reconsider.

Nonetheless, please stop by our message board and talk to other fans.

  • We'll just have to disagree then. Losing seasons in the PL are not good for Georgetown or the league. I think they need a change and your AD is going to step up support for football.

  • It's so difficult to balance one's high regard for a football coach as an individual and the natural competitive desire to win. By all accounts and my personal experience, Benson is a fine guy and was nothing but fair to my son. On the other hand, each player has just four years and they all want to play for a successful team. Add to that an AD who is obviously focused on winning and Benson's departure is not a shock.

As an "outside observer", I have been impressed with the patience Georgetown has shown given the team's performance since joining the Patriot League. In the current world of Division I football, most schools would have taken action sooner--even high level academic institutions (see Columbia and Shoop).

What's done is done and I hope that Georgetown worked out a fair settlement for Benson...he deserves it. Time to move on and support the new guy whomever he may be.
